Bio Statement

I am a third year New Media major trying to graduate by the year 2014 and am, as usual, stressing about how I am going to learn so much about my field of study in such a small period of time. I’m Alex Prevey, and I’m a little nervous. Originally being from the small state of Rhode Island, the idea of setting out to a new state and new school created in me a different mindset. I had to pave my own way.

I have always tried to volunteer in communities and organizations that promoted the well being of the people around me as well as programs that struck a balance between fun and philanthropy, so upon my arrival here I tried to find a place that would fit my needs for friendship and a push to succeed. Greek life is where I found it. Many people would disagree with me on the nature of Greek life but it has taught me valuable life lessons and how to dodge vomit. Two things I’m am currently very grateful for. Also it pushed me to be more creative as I have been creating shirts as well as posters and flyers for my house’s events for the past few years now. My father and mother both were Greek’s at the University of Rhode Island and now I see why. It affected my college career and my art career in the best way.

Creative Statement

Its not easy learning how to draw, I can say this myself having taken quite some time in the process of learning. Though I have not mastered it, it is a core foundation for my work, my passions, and hopefully my future job. I’m Alex Prevey and I’m a Rhode Island artist. My work originally began at a young age and was taught to me by my grandfather Lee Prevey. His imagination and artistry, both on paper and computer alike, pushed me to further follow my dream of becoming an artist. My hands on skills are at a respectable level however when it comes to digital work I am much less honed So by taking classes at the University of Maine I have pushed myself to sharpen my technical skills and learn how to incorporate my hands-on knowledge into the digital world. I try to put as much of my outgoing and adventurous personality into my work as possible because without your own personal flair, what is art but reproduction?
